I WAS THERE ®

My first trip to South Africa was undoubtedly one of the greatest experiences of my life. On one of the last days of our trip, while on a game drive in Kruger National Park, our guide caught wind over the two-way radio of a Lion just off a Kudu kill outside of Kruger on a private game reserve in the Timbavati. After receiving permission from the owner to enter his property, we traveled 30 miles trying to get to the lion before sunset. When we arrived, there his majesty was, bedded down bigger than life! To this day, he is still truly the most gorgeous big red Lion I have ever seen anywhere. This big guy was estimated to be 12 years old and to weigh about 500 lbs. The warm sunset light made his mane glow like burning embers, and this magnificent sight will forever be imbedded in my most treasured memories.     ~NEILL
