I WAS THERE ®

This weather-beaten old lion was alone walking toward me in the Ngorongora Crater of Tanzania (known as one of the seven natural wonders of Africa). He exuded weariness and wisdom with his piercing eyes and tattered wet mane.  I was able to catch this wonderful pose with my camera as he continued his approach.  In the wild, male lions live about 12 years, and I assume this lion was close to that age.  I added color and texture to this painting to portray the mood of ruggedness that was apparent in this aged survivor.     ~NEILL
